The 155 pound fighter comes into Strikeforce with a 5-1-1 record and his most telling stat of his skill level is that all 5 of his wins came by way of submission. Couture will get his introduction to the company and pro fighting against Lucas Starks (2-4) on the Challengers series on August 13th in Phoenix, Arizona.
While Couture is not being given a televised spot on a big card off the bat their is no doubt that the young fighter has a pedigree that could carry him there. Beyond his father who is a pioneer in the sport and is considered one of the best coaches in the world he has had the benefit of training with some of the best fighters in MMA and coaches as they have come through Xtreme Couture to train at the Las Vegas based facility.
Ryan followed in his fathers foot steps as a prep athlete and was a highly regarded high school wrester before deciding to continue his education at Western Washington University. After graduation though Ryan chose to enter the business world at a local bank before the fight bug caught him and he began to pursue his place in the family business.
Most recently Ryan fought to a draw for the Tuff N Uff 155 pound title with Sean Bollinger in what would be his final amateur fight.
His opponent Lucas Starks is entering the second year of his pro MMA career. With a 2-4 record but is coming off a split decision victory at Rage in the Cage 136 last November.
